While Gladwell deserves no moral credit for admitting that he lied, his confession is important because it reminds us that absolutely no one of similar prominence in media has said one word to contest gender ideology since it was sacralized around 2017. A decade of blanket mendacity across the whole of the American intellectual class came to a close. The sacralization did not happen because there was any deliberation or debate that won people over to the cause of sex falsification as the civil rights movement of the 21st century. It happened entirely through the promulgation of new taboos and compelled affirmations that were announced through the act of enforcing them. There has been no sudden preference cascade following Gladwell's statement. We are in a long moment reminiscent of the fifth act of the Big Short, after the widespread defaults on subprime mortgages have set in but before the prices on the credit defaults swaps pegged to them had reset. This moment can easily last for another decade.
