From the Episcopal Diocese of NY: Ali Faqirzada served in Afghanistan working for the US military. He made his way to the US, crossed the border, surrendered to CBP, began legal asylum application, worked as a security guard and then began studying at Bard College in NY. Since October 14th, 31-year-old Afghan student at Bard College, and beloved member of our diocese, Ali Faqirzada, has been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE detained Ali just after he appeared for a scheduled interview at the New York Asylum Office, and had been found to have a viable claim for asylum. If he is deported and returned to Afghanistan his life will be in danger.
